What it looks like

Look for a stem with three flat sides instead of round like grass. It sends up long stalks topped with a round, globe-shaped cluster of seeds, which is where it gets its name.

Often mistaken for: Other nutsedges or grass-like weeds

When it shows up in the Triangle

Shows up and stays active through the whole growing season here in the Triangle, especially in wet weather.

  • Hand-pull small patches before they spread
  • Keep the lawn thick and healthy to crowd it out
